The episode “Spring” of “Tomorrow” told the heartbreaking story of the comfort women. It was an unexpected moment when the grim reaper in charge of escorting the grandmother, Lee Jeong-Moon, turned out to be Yun-I, who was another victim as the comfort woman who had been waiting to meet Lee Jeong-Moon.
The overall plot of the drama episode is very similar to the original webtoon, with a few minor changes. Let’s take a look at them.
1. A male grim reaper from the Escort team joins Goo Ryeon’s team in the original story.
In the original webtoon “Tomorrow,” a male grim reaper from the Escort team joins the Crisis Management team on the project. When he arrives, he recognizes Choi Jun-Woong as someone he knows. He claims that Choi Jun-Woong used to be an independent activist in a past life. The grim reaper escorted Choi Jun-Woong to the underworld in the past and still remembers him.
The grim reaper Jeon Bo-Yun, also known as Yun-I in the past, joins later in the episodes and speaks with the grandmothers.
In the drama, Jeon Bo-Yun joins Goo Ryeon’s team from the beginning of the episode. She is introduced as a new team member of Park Joong-Gil’s Escort team. Park Joong-Gil was the one who escorted her when she died.
Jeon Bo-Yun is overjoyed that Park Joong-Gil still remembers her.
2. In the webtoon, Choi Jun-Woong fails to save the comfort women.
In both the webtoon and the drama “Tomorrow,” Choi Jun-Woong had a previous life as a fighter for the country during the Japanese colonial period.
Choi Jun-Woong appears in the webtoon when Lee Jeong-Moon leaves her home and is taken into custody by Japanese soldiers. He attacks the soldiers alone in an attempt to save Lee Jeong-Moon, but it fails. He is apprehended and dragged by the soldiers.
Choi Jun-Woong appears in a different timeframe in the drama version. Lee Jeong-Moon has been working as a comfort woman for years and finally escapes from custody with her friends. However, she is soon pursued by Japanese soldiers. Choi Jun-Woong appears and saves her.
Choi Jun-Woong and his fellow independent activists successfully rescue Lee Jeong-Moon and other victims by attacking Japanese soldiers.
3. The person accompanying Lee Jeong-Moon in the underworld has changed.
Lee Young-Cheon, a Korean War veteran from the episode “A Soul Becomes a Star,” appears at the end of the original webtoon episode. When Lee Jeong-Moon dies, Lee young-Cheon escorts her and expresses gratitude for her sacrifice to the country. He introduces the underworld to Lee Jeong-Moon and tells her that there are people waiting for her there.
In the drama “Tomorrow,” Lee Jeong-Moon meets the Jade Emperor. The Jade Emperor informs Lee Jeong-Moon that she has granted Reaper Jeon Bo-Yun a special leave. She suggests that Lee Jeong-Moon and Jeon Bo-Yun travel together to their hometown.
When the Jade Emperor leaves, Lee Jeong-Moon’s childhood friends walk through the door and greet her.
