The webtoon “i Shopping” (literal title), which was serialized on Kakao Webtoon, will be made into a drama series. The title “i” means “a child” in Korean, so the meaning of the title could be translated into “Shopping a child.”
The webtoon “i Shopping” was serialized in Daum Webtoon (now Kakao Webtoon) in 2016 by writers Ryu Ga-Myung (illustration) and Um Se-Yoon (story). While serializing, the webtoon sparked lots of controversy by choosing the plot of “returning an adopted child.”
The “adoption broker” that appears in the webtoon supplies children to those who want to adopt kids secretly. The organization offers a policy that allows the clients to return the kids back to them for any reason. As long as the client contacts the broker before the child reaches the age of 20, the broker will come and pick up the child.
Tae-Sik, who works for the broker, sympathizes with the children and assists those who have been returned. He hides the kids in a secret area and helps them grow into self-sufficient individuals. Those abandoned children exact their own form of vengeance on their parents.
Production company Group 8 intends to produce a drama following the original plot. Director Oh Ki-hwan, who directed the drama “A Wedding Invitation,” will be directing the drama “i Shopping.” The drama will be divided into 12 episodes of 60 minutes each.
Kakao Webtoon continues delivering webtoons made into dramas and films. Kakao Webtoon continues to provide webtoons that have been adapted into dramas and films. “Moving” and “Borrowed Body,” both currently in production, have been serialized on Kakao Webtoon.
