On May 23, the content platform company Ridi announced that it had confirmed the film adaptation of the popular BL webtoon “The New Employee.” The author shared that he had sold the rights to the film production in March 2022.
Moskareto first published “The New Employee” as a web novel in 2016, and it was adapted into a webtoon in 2020. The webtoon won the best webtoon award at the Ridi BL Comic Awards in the same year it was released, thanks to a solid story and the popularity of the original novel.
“The New Employee” depicts an office romance between Kim Jong-Chan, an advertising company team leader, and Woo Seung-Hyun, an intern at the same firm. Due to his workaholic personality, Kim Jong-Chan’s romance was never successful, and Woo Seung-Hyun spent his entire 20s liking someone, but it didn’t work out.
“‘The New Employee’ has built a solid fandom with a tense office relationship in the background of an advertising company,” a Ridi official said, adding, “I hope this film appeals to the fans with its three-dimensional characters and subtle emotions.”
The film “The New Employee” will be distributed by Watch, the same platform that distributed the mega-hit BL drama “Semantic Error.” The cast and release date have yet to be announced.
