The Netflix series “Tomorrow” has revealed new fantasy elements that were not present in the original webtoon but were added to the drama during the adaptation. There are four new features added until the drama’s fourth episode to keep the audience interested.
1. The transparent key that unlocks the door to the past.
In the “Fallen Flower” episode, Goo Ryeon (Kim Hee-Sun) demonstrates using her translucent key to open the door to the mysterious place. She and Choi Jun-woong (Rowoon) walk through the door and are immediately immersed in the memories of No Eun-bi, the victim of the school bully. Each time the magical key opens the door, it brings the grim reapers back to a different memory from the victim’s past. They then investigate what happened in the past and devise a plan to keep the victim from committing suicide.
2. Time-traveling mini car
In the third episode, “Forest of Time,” Goo Ryeon enters the parking lot after retrieving a car key from her workplace. The parking lot is full of luxury cars, but the one that fits the key is the smallest and oldest mini car. The grim reapers can travel back in time once they are in the car. They do, however, have a 12-hour time limit for using the car. If they are late, they will be unable to return to the current time. Goo Ryeon and Choi Jun-woong go back to 1999 to observe Choi Jun-woong’s best friend’s tough childhood and find a way to help him.
3. The face-changing effect
In the third episode of “Tomorrow,” Choi Jun-woong learns that his best friend is struggling and is depressed. He runs to help his friend and knocks on the door. The friend, on the other hand, does not recognize him. This is due to Jumadeung’s rule that the grim reapers are not permitted to approach people they used to know. When Choi Jun-woong knocks on his friend’s door, the friend sees an older, and strange-looking man instead of Choi Jun-woong’s face. Choi Jun-woong is embarrassed when his friend calls the police to report a residential invasion.
4. The ring that governs abilities
In the fourth episode of “Tomorrow,” Goo Ryeon is summoned by Emperor Jade, who is reviewing the audit report. “No reaper may use their abilities in front of humans,” says Emperor Jade, and “no reaper may intervene in human affairs.” Goo Ryeon used her ability to save Choi Jun-woong’s friend’s father from a car accident, which was against company policy. As a result, she is forced to wear a ring that restricts her abilities for one week. If Goo Ryeon tries to use her ability while wearing a ring, she will encounter resistance. She will die if she continues to break the rule. In the upcoming episode, “Tree,” Goo Ryeon’s ability to help other people is expected to be very limited.
