The first two episodes of the new K-drama “Little Women” have aired, and the audience has been wowed by the drama’s quality. Aside from the excellent acting by the main cast, the music and art in the scenes were well integrated. “Little Women” has the potential to be one of the most popular dramas for the rest of 2022.
In this post, we’ll go over what happened in the first episode of “Little Women,” as well as give a prediction of what will happen in the upcoming episodes.
The drama’s plot revolves around three sisters.
Oh In-Ju is the oldest of the three sisters, played by Kim Go-Eun. She tells her sister Oh In-Kyung (played by Nam Ji-Hyun) that she’s glad they could afford to buy a birthday cake for their youngest sister, Oh In-Hye (played by Park Ji-Hoo).
The three sisters have been burdened by their father’s debt, and their mother has been unable to assist the family financially. When In-Ju and In-Kyung gathered funds to send their youngest sister on her school trip to Europe, the mother stole the money and left the home.
Now that the money has gone, In-Ju and In-Kyung try to find a way to earn the money for In-Hye to pay for the school trip before the deadline.
In-Ju asks her company boss if she can get her salary in advance, but her boss denies it. She then speaks with her best friend in the company, Jin Hwa-Young (played by Choo Ja-Hyun), an accountant who works for the company’s management.
After hearing In-Ju’s story, Hwa-Young invites her to dinner. She takes In-Ju to a fine-dining restaurant and allows her to wear her expensive shoes.
Hwa-Young and In-Ju discuss their low-income lives and what they would do if they became wealthy. In-Ju says she wants to live with her sisters in an apartment with good windows.
Hwa-Young lends In-Ju money and also asks her to sign a contract. She explains that it is for the accounting technology startup, which she believes will replace all accountants in the future.
Because In-Ju cannot read English, she believes Hwa-Young and simply signs the paper. The paper that In-Ju signed appears to be an application to open a personal account in another country.
Hwa-Young asks In-Ju to look after the orchids that she’s been caring for in the management office because she’s leaving for a business trip to Europe.
While doing the job, In-Ju meets Choi Do-il (played by Wi Ha-Joon), who previously worked with Hwa-Young in the company’s European branch. He tells In-Ju that he can’t get in touch with Hwa-Young and asks In-Ju to help him find her.
When In-Ju goes to knock on Hwa-Young’s door, she doesn’t expect to see Haw-Young because she believes she is in Europe. However, In-Ju soon discovers that Hwa-Young died in her apartment while wearing a pair of red high heels. In-Ju is shocked by the death of her only friend in the company.
Following Hwa-Young’s funeral, In-Ju learns more shocking news at her workplace. The director Shin, who worked with Hwa-Young for 15 years, tells In-Ju that Hwa-Young stole the money from the company, which totals $70 million.
At first, In-Ju didn’t believe it. But she soon receives a phone call from a yoga center where Hwa-Young has transferred her membership to In-Ju.
When In-Ju opens Hwa-Young’s personal locker at the yoga center, she discovers a message card. “Thank you In-Ju, you have been very kind,” the message says. “I wish you could live in an apartment with good windows.”
Below the card is a huge chunk of a traveler’s bag filled with cash.
What happened between In-Ju and Hwa-Young is such a tragedy. Hwa-Young clearly adored In-Ju, as shown in the first episode. She left a large sum of money in the locker for In-Ju, wishing her friend to have a good life with her sisters.
The $70 million Hwa-Young stole from the company is most likely in In-Ju’s bank account. In-Ju may find the money in her overseas account at some point because Hwa-Young asked her to sign the personal account opening form at the restaurant.
It’s unclear whether this large sum of money would make In-Ju’s life better or worse. Because of that money, In-Ju may get into a lot of trouble with the company people who want that money.
The Korean drama “Little Women” was inspired by the American novel of the same name. Margaret March, also known as Meg, is the In-Ju’s motif. In the original novel, Meg is the person who works for a wealthy family as a private tutor. While observing a wealthy family’s life, she realizes she can be happy even if she is not wealthy.
If In-Ju’s character follows the original character, she may later give up the money that Hwa-Young gave her.
