Kim Sejeong’s most recent acting roles are intriguing because they all have something in common. Three of her dramas, ranging from “The Uncanny Counter” to “Business Proposal” and “Today’s Webtoon,” are all based on comic stories.
The drama “Uncanny Counter” is based on Jang Yi’s webtoon “Amazing Rumor,” and “Business Proposal” is based on Hae Hwa’s web novel and webtoon “Sanae Matson.” The upcoming drama “Today’s Webtoon” is based on the Japanese manga “Juhan Shuttai!”
Kim Sejeong expressed her thoughts on why she was chosen for the roles in comic-based dramas, saying, “I believe it’s because I blend well with the features in the comics.” She continued, “When I play a role in a drama in which I have to overcome comic-book-like adversities, I do so as a human being, not as a comic-book character. As a result, I believe that many directors see parallels between me and the comics in those dramas.”
Surprisingly, Kim Sejeong’s favorite characters in her acting career were neither Do Ha-na from “Uncanny Counter” nor Shin Ha-ri from “Business Proposal.” Kim Sejeong chose Anna in the 2021 musical “Red Book” as her favorite role in her career.
“I liked the role of Do Ha-na, but I think I like Anna from ‘Red Book’ the best.” Kim Sejeong went on to say, “Anna, I believe, is the character who helped me become more confident in who I am now. It was a character who made me think, ‘Wow, there’s another way to discover myself.’ I met good colleagues and was given the opportunity to learn how to dance, act, and sing. I believe I was able to play Ha-ri in ‘Business Proposal’ because of my experience as Anna in ‘Red Book.'”
